Country overview

About Bulgaria

Bulgaria is a republic in South-Eastern Europe. Sofia is the capital and the largest city. About 6.4 million people live here. It borders Romania, Serbia, North Macedonia, Greece and Turkey, with a Black Sea coast. Bulgarian is the official language, written in Cyrillic. The euro is the currency.

Bulgaria joined the European Union in 2007, completed Schengen accession, and adopted the euro on 1 January 2026. It is one of the lower-cost operating environments in the EU, with a published 10 percent corporate income tax rate. The country is used as an EU company base for services, shared operations, and trade with both the EU and neighbouring non-EU markets.

Brikseka forms Bulgarian companies. The usual vehicles are a еднолично дружество с ограничена отговорност (EOOD) for a single owner, or a дружество с ограничена отговорност (OOD) for more than one. The commercial register is relatively fast. Formation can be completed remotely with a power of attorney; a visit is not required to incorporate.

We then advise on a business bank account and payment gateways such as Stripe and PayPal. Approvals are decided by the providers. If your aim is to live in Bulgaria, company formation is not a residence permit — that is a separate immigration file, which we also advise on.

  • Company formation

We form an EOOD or OOD at the Bulgarian commercial register, then stay with the file through banking and payments.

  • European Union and euro

EU member since 2007, in Schengen, and in the euro area since 1 January 2026. A Bulgarian company sits inside the single market.

  • South-Eastern Europe

A Black Sea EU member with borders on Greece, Turkey, Romania and the Western Balkans.

  • Tax setting

Corporate income tax is published at 10 percent. We confirm the live position before you proceed.

How we work

From briefing to a registered company

  1. Briefing

We review your business, the right entity for this country, costs, and whether a visit is likely.

  2. Company formation

Local counsel, notary where required, and the commercial register. We coordinate the documents through to a registered company.

  3. Banking and payments

After the company exists, we prepare applications for a business account and payment gateways.

  4. After incorporation

Statutory records, a named contact, and introductions to accounting so the company can operate.

After the company exists

Payment gateways

  • Stripe, subject to Stripe’s approval
  • PayPal Business, subject to PayPal’s approval
