Country overview
About Indonesia
Indonesia is a republic of islands in South-East Asia. Jakarta is the capital and the commercial centre. About 280 million people live here — the largest population in ASEAN. It borders Malaysia, Papua New Guinea and Timor-Leste, with Australia across the sea to the south. Indonesian is the official language. The currency is the rupiah (IDR).
Indonesia is a member of ASEAN and one of the largest emerging markets in Asia. Jakarta is the centre of government, banking and corporate life. Foreign investment is made through a PT PMA, subject to the investment list and the Online Single Submission system. English is used in business in Jakarta. This is a presence jurisdiction: office, local direction and in-person steps are part of the file.
Brikseka forms foreign-investment companies in Indonesia. The usual vehicle is a perseroan terbatas penanaman modal asing (PT PMA). A visit is required. A local director is required. Licensing runs through OSS and the investment authority. Share capital and office requirements are material. Timeframes typically run from four to ten weeks.
We then advise on an Indonesian business bank account and on local processors such as Midtrans and Xendit. Stripe Indonesia is limited and is not the usual merchant path. Banks work in person. Approvals are decided by the providers. If your aim is to live in Indonesia, company formation is not a residence permit — that is a separate immigration file, which we also advise on.
